Plano JavaTM Users Group
Members/Hall of Fame
Below is a list of members, past and present that have contributed to the group in time, advice, leadership or general participation. The success of the group and this site is a result of their time and talent. Many members of the group started with little to no Java experience and now have their Java Certification and have used this to advance their careers. If you are interested in joining the group, or would like to get on our e-mail list, visit our discussion group.
| John Chapman: Although I have little time for Java studies these days, I am one of the sponsors of the Plano Java Users group. I have a long background in application development, project management, relational databases, workflow, and process automation. I've spent a fair amount of time lately speaking in financial circles around the country on data warehousing and e-commerce topics. I have also had several articles published in credit union journals on these topics as well. In my spare time, (i.e. the few occasions when I'm not working or thinking about work) I enjoy fly fishing and playing the bass (the guitar, not the fish). | |
| Stephanie Smith: Founder of the PlanoJava user group and its leader for its first 5 years. Self-employed as a consultant for over 20 years. I do Windows and Internet projects in Java or C++ and also do training. I joined the group in fall of 1999. I've helped with many of the group's projects including Tomcat, XML, Cocoon, and Struts. I also lead a certification study group from time to time. The rare occasions I can be dragged away from the computer, you'll find me outside snow skiing, hiking, backpacking, bicycling, camping, scuba diving, water and jet skiing, etc. | |
| John Erway II: I began my adventure into Java programming in the Spring of 1999 as a CS major at SUNY Brockport. After a difficult summer spent writing embedded C code I decided that I greatly preferred Java and began to half-heartedly seek programmer certification. In August of 1999 after relocating to Dallas, TX with my spouse I intensified my study effort. I finally obtained my Java2 Programmer Certification from Sun in May, 2000. Currently, I'm employed by Agent Systems, Inc. in Dallas as a Software Developer. Present topics of interest include servlets, multi-threading, concurrency programming, embedded Java programming and RTOSs. Other interests (which can be used to argue that I actually do have a real life) include golf and target shooting. johnerway2@hotmail.com | |
| Stephen Chambers: Stephen has been a great asset to the group. He arranged for our classroom lab and web site hosting at SMU Legacy. He is certified as a Java 2 Programmer. He currently works as a TA at SMU Legacy. | |
| Doug Warren: Doug is currently leader of this PlanoJava group, and also leads the Web Services JUG. During the week, he is a Software Architect at Countrywide Home Loans in Plano. Also, he is an active reviewer of many technical books for Manning Publications. | |
| Steve Conlon: One of the longtime members of the group. Steve's contributions include starting our list serve and spearheading the group's database utilization effort using MS SQL server. | |
| Bob Bonomi: Bob is one of those self starter kinds of guys. When his busy schedule allows, he stops by from time to time to listen and share his words of wisdom. | |
| Karen Tegtmeyer: I obtained my Java Programmer certification in January 2000, and I am now studying for my Java Developer and Java Architect certifications. I have several years of software development experience in the banking, insurance, property tax, and medical industries. I have full project life cycle experience, which means that I have worked on projects where the software system actually ended up being installed in a production environment and was actually used! (Which, unfortunately, these days seems to be some sort of a novelty.) I am Vice President of the Dallas Oracle Users Group, and on the Board of Directors of the DFW Unix Users Group. My main hobby is amateur astronomy. My topics of interest include Java patterns and UML. karen@javadiva.com | |
| Others: We have many other members. Currently we have well over 100 on our list serve list. Attending our sessions, we usually have 20 to 30 enthusiastic Java programmers of all levels. | |
| Note: Several of our members have a neat web page. Check out Karen's page at www.javadiva.com. Her site is full of useful links to Java and UML information. Also, Nolan Bailey has done a page just full of Metroplex information. He's even been interviewed by local radio stations regarding his website. Check out his page at www.metroplexdaily.com. | |
